Job Brief

The kitchen assistant’s responsibilities include assisting with inventory control, cleaning the kitchen and clearing garbage, refrigerators, freezers, and storage rooms. To be successful as a kitchen assistant, you should exercise exceptional time management and ensure that all duties are completed in a timely manner.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high levels of personal hygiene and immaculate presentation
  • Keep all kitchen work surfaces (counters, sinks, stoves, walls) clean and sanitized
  • Sweep and mop floors at the beginning, during and end of shifts
  • Clean up spills to avoid hindering operations
  • Wash cookware, utensils and cutlery fast to keep them in rotation
  • Assist in arranging equipment and ingredient deliveries
  • Keep the food and supply storage areas organized
  • Take out the garbage at all times.
  • Work well within the team, communicating effectively with all necessary team members to ensure guests receive the highest level of quality meals and service.
  • Ensure all preps, opening and closing procedures and other associated tasks are completed effectively and efficiently
  • · Receive instructions courteously, showing respect to your superiors and colleagues
  • Keep the kitchen and all areas close to the kitchen including storerooms are tidy and clean, using the ‘clean as you work’ approach to be more effective and efficient.
  • You may at times be asked to assist with cooking and presentation of foods as instructed by line manager or immediate supervisor.
  • You will be expected to work in a professional manner, being flexible, dynamic, proactive and enthusiastic and will have sound communication skills.
  • Be prepared to work as part of a team as well as on your own at times
  • Pay attention to detail at all times
  • Any other duties that are reasonably requested within the scope of the job-role.

Requirements

  •  A high school certificate or equivalent is desirable
